Brief Overview
Our definition of jars is the same for all time periods we have excavated in Mozan. This type of vessel is a closed form and has a rim diameter narrower than the height, usually carried with two hands, especially when full but small jars often can be carried with only one hand even when full. The contents of jars usually can only be poured out but this is not true for large storage jars which only can have the contents scooped out.
In the LC3 period hole mouth jars are medium to medium-large in size with rim diameters ranging normally from 10-23 cm. Necked jars can have a wider rim diameter which ranges from 10-34 cm.
