Description (summary) 2001-07-30 okk A red layer in the southern half of k3. It is a compacted red layer with white patina, which has a fine consistency. When it was first discovered, it was a clear arcing line from the eastern baulk to the western baulk. At first it seemed as if it was a wall, although the consistency of the matrix appeared to be too fine to be brick, and there were no brick or mortar lines to guide us. f119 is the same level as the burial a5 and kiln a4, although the burial is certainly intrusive and is dated to the Khabur period by the Khabur vessel found within it. When this red layer was excavated, there was a stone wall beneath it, although it does not completely match its borders. [Input: L730okk.j]
2001-08-19 okk compacted red accumulation in the southern half of k3. It forms an irregular line 1.5 m northwards from the southern baulk and tapers to 65 cm at the easternmost extent at the SE corner. The texture once scraped was very fine, and became a reddish-white powder. When this feature was first uncovered, there was an overturned bowl i37 and a seal impression i36 which was found in the accumulation f112 above it and resting on this feature. This accumulation was clearly differentiated from the grey accumulation f120 to the north of it from the beginning in color, compaction and percentage of pottery. It was thought to be either a wall or the accumulation on top of a wall that had been eroded. [Input: L819okk.j]
