Introduction
(by G. Buccellati, edited by M. De Pietri)

One will find here a full set of references to all publications about Urkesh by members of the staff or by colleagues who have access to primary material from the excavations. Along with publications specific to Urkesh, you can also find those of broader interest.
Where possible, we offer links to electronic versions of the works; “electronic” means that these are simply mirror copies of paper editions, with no claim at having been originally conceived as digital. A properly digital publication of the data is given in the full Urkesh website.
The fundamental theoretical distinction between the two sections entitled “Urkesh Global Record” and “eLibrary” is that the data in the former are construed as digital from the beginning, whereas the latter includes publications which, though physically presented in digital format, are conceived essentially along traditional lines.
The eLibrary is of course just as central to the effort at presenting both the documentation and our interpretation of the data, and for this reason we make these publications available online.

Project Publications includes publications, presentations and other output by members of staff. Beside a link to an electronic version where possible, the entries include an abstract and/or a poster.
Other Publications lists publications relevant to Urkesh and of broader interest to Ancient Near Eastern studies (with two specific sub-setions offering Abstracts and Keywords).
Media Coverage contains discussions of Urkesh in the popular (also social) media.
Authors Index lists all the authors whose contributions are entered in the eLibrary.
Excursuses page includes discussions related to specific topics.

Content and goals

The aim of the present website is to provide the reader with a comprehensive, as far as possible, list of the bibliography or directly related to the Urkesh/Tell Mozan archaeological site or related topics in archaeology tout court.

As far as it is possible, each bibliograhical entry is correlated by a brief summary authored by different people who have come and gone over time.

The main and first aim of this website is to offer, as far as possible, a comprehensive bibliography about publications directly related to the Urkesh/Tell Mozan site and published by members of the “Urkesh/Tell Mozan Archaeological Project”, or to related topics, divided into two categories:

When it is possible (mostly because of copyright reasons), for each bibliograhical entry a link to a PDF version of the publication is given.

References

At the beginning, the “eLibrary” was a section og the “urkesh.org” website (Version 1).

From 2024, with the “urkesh.org” Version 2 the “eLibrary” was structured as an independed website (the very present one).

In “Version 1” and “Version 1a” (a transitional step) the bibliographical entries were basically coded in HTML, with the addition of a “new format” (run by the DABI program written by Bernardo Forni) in “Version 1a”.
