     Tell Mozan hides an ancient city, Urkesh, that was alive in the past.

     In recent years, we as archaeologists have brought it back to life. It is the life of the monuments that once encased the life of real people.
     If archaeology were only excavation, then it would have stopped in 2011.

     But archaeology is more than that. It is the commitment to re-insert the past into the present.
     This we have done, and to this end we offer now this booklet. We want to continue being present, even when the war forces us to do so only from a distance.

     We address this multilingual guide, written in English, Arabic and Kurdish, to the local inhabitants with whom we have shared the work at this ancient city, and with whose help we are now protecting it against the elements and against vandalism. We count on them as guardians of the territory to protect the city and its beautiful environs for the generations that will come after us.

     Tell Mozan nasconde una città antica, Urkesh, che era viva nel passato.

     Negli ultimi anni, noi archeologi l'abbiamo riportata in vita. Abbiamo riscoperto la vita di quei monumenti che un tempo racchiudevano la vita delle persone reali.
     Se l'archeologia fosse solo scavo, allora si sarebbe fermata nel 2011.

Ma l'archeologia è più di questo. È l'impegno a reinserire il passato nel presente.
     Questo è ciò che abbiamo fatto, ed è per questo che abbiamo pubblicato questo piccolo volume. Vogliamo continuare ad essere presenti, anche quando la guerra ci costringe a farlo solo a distanza.

      Questa guida multilingue, scritta in inglese, arabo e curdo, è rivolta soprattutto agli abitanti locali con i quali abbiamo condiviso il lavoro in questa antica cittè, e con il cui aiuto la stiamo ora proteggendo contro gli elementi naturali e contro il vandalismo. Contiamo su di loro come guardiani del territorio per proteggere la cittè e lo splendido territorio in cui essa è inserita per le generazioni che verranno dopo di noi.
