Introduction

A6 is considered the medium-sized area in the service quarter, counting six regular (5x5 meters) in addition to two loci k170 and k171 on the southern side of k169. In 1997 two other loci were added to the eastern side k30 and k31. The area was excavated over three seasons. Its stratigraphy and typology context is complex because it includes later strata above the original.

Main loci (squares)

There are six main loci, each corresponding to one 5x5 meter square k167, k168, k169, k217, k218, and k219, the loci k219 shares in size mostly with A10. The other loci on the southern side of k169, such as k170 and k171 were only dealt with in 1992.

Special loci

A series of “special” loci was organized in order to accomplish the needs of excavation strategy and of stratigraphy nature.

Special loci: the combined loci inside the main unit excavation

The depth of the excavation required to re-model the loci in A6, so two loci k217 and k218 were combined into one so-called k21. And k22 which includes k21, part of A8, and an additional area east of doorway a4.

Special loci: asymmetrical loci in upper levels of the eastern side of excavations

In 1997 two additional loci created on the eastern side of k21 such as k30 and k31 in order to articulate the extent of building AK to the east and to go down to its wall.

Special loci: bottom loci in lower levels of the western side of excavations

Between the vault (a1) and k169 two other loci were created as k25 which is considered as D2 (the Iwan), and k26 in the S of k25.
